Rediscovering hope
Goethe once said, ‘All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own.’ And, for me, this is why photography plays such a huge part in my life. Artists walk an interesting line between their intellect and their emotions in order to create their art. But I believe art is truly at its best when it is delivered from one heart to another. With this in mind, in 2025 I took the decision to apply for my Fellowship of the Photographic Society of New Zealand (PSNZ) Honours Award. A Fellowship is the highest level of Distinction and, according to the PSNZ, would require me to put together a portfolio of 18 images which demonstrates photographic mastery. They also suggest that the portfolio should take the viewer on a journey. I hoped this would be my opportunity to really deliver my art from my heart to theirs.
The images from my portfolio are below, together with my artist’s statement which I hope helps to guide you on that journey. I do hope the statement helps to convey the emotional journey the images lead you on, as they deliver my art from one heart to another.
